Thyone, Jupiter XXIX
Thyone was the mother of Dionysus and the goddess of the Bacchic frenzy which seized female devotees of the god during The Orgies. Fun.
Thyone's mortal name was Semele, a Theban princess loved by the god Zeus. When his wife Hera learned of their mortal affair, she tricked the girl into having Zeus swear an oath to appear before her in his full glory. Bound by his pledge the god did so, and Semele was consumed by the fire of his lightning bolts. Zeus recovered their son from her womb, and upon reaching adulthood, he fetched Semele from the underworld to join the gods on Olympus as the goddess Thyone.

This is one of a series of unique sculptures named after the Ananke Group, a collection of moons that orbit Jupiter that came to being from a meteor strike.
